Facing newly enacted 25% US tariffs on imported vehicles, UK carmaker Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) announced Saturday it would pause shipments to the United States.
Describing the action as “short-term,” JLR stated it needs to develop a longer-term plan to navigate the changed economic conditions in its “important” US market.
The tariffs, announced last month by President Trump, went into effect on April 3rd. The US is the second-largest market for British car exports (20%), trailing only the EU.
Before the tariffs, some UK manufacturers increased exports to the US, with shipments rising significantly in the final months of 2024 and early 2025, likely to build inventory.
