Japan’s Fair Trade Commission (FTC) plans to stop Google for breaking anti-monopoly rules, sources said on Sunday.
According to reports, the FTC found that Google made smartphone makers install its search app. This will be the first time the FTC orders a big U.S. tech company to stop unfair practices.
The FTC told Google about the plan and will decide after listening to the company’s response.
Reports say Google made deals with smartphone makers that use Android. These deals allowed Google to put its Search and Chrome apps on home screens, and phone makers could install their own app stores in return.
Sources said Google also paid phone makers part of its ad revenue if they agreed not to install other search apps.
