Tesla has launched a more affordable Model Y ‘Juniper’ Long Range AWD in North America, starting at $48,990 in the US (CA$ 69,990 in Canada).
This new version, $11,000 less than the fully-loaded Launch Edition, omits features like Full Self-Driving Beta and acceleration boost. Lease rates are less appealing at $671/month with zero down compared to a similarly equipped Model 3 at $542.
While lease rates may improve, tariffs and reliance on foreign components could also increase prices. Delivery estimates are 2-4 weeks but are subject to change.
Notably, the new Model Y is only $1,000 more than the previous Long Range AWD despite upgrades including revised chassis, rear display, ventilated seats, improved insulation, ambient lighting, and motorized rear seats – a compelling value.
Qualifying US buyers can see the price drop to $41,490 with the federal tax credit and further with state incentives like Massachusetts’ $3,500 rebate (for vehicles under $55,000), potentially reaching an effective pre-tax cost of $37,990 plus delivery.
This gets you a spacious crossover with a 327-mile range, 4.6-second 0-60 mph, and 125 mph top speed. For comparison, a base Toyota RAV4 starts at $29,250, and EV competitors like the Mustang Mach-E and Hyundai Ioniq 5 have varying price ranges.
Available add-ons include paint colors (Stealth Grey standard, others $1,000-$2,000), white leather interior ($1,000), tow hitch ($1,000), and 20-inch wheels ($2,000, reducing range). The upcoming Long Range RWD is expected to be near its previous $44,990 price, and the Performance trim around $51,490.
