Comedian Tim Dillon, who plays a security guard in Joker: Folie à Deux, recently criticized the film on The Joe Rogan Experience, calling it “the worst film ever made.” Unlike the 2019 Joker, which grossed over $1 billion, the sequel saw a lackluster box office return, with $58 million domestically and $204 million worldwide.
“It’s the worst film ever made,” Dillon said, explaining that the movie tried to steer away from the “male rage” and “nihilism” themes discussed in the original. He added, “Now, they have Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga tap dancing — it’s insane. It has no plot. We’d sit there and think, ‘What’s going on? Is there even a plot?’”
According to Dillon, even the cast doubted the film’s success, calling it “unwatchable” and “bound to bomb.”
While Dillon’s take was harsh, director Quentin Tarantino had a different perspective. In a recent interview on The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast, he praised Phoenix’s performance, calling it “one of the best I’ve ever seen.”
Tarantino claimed director Todd Phillips approached the film with a Joker-like mentality, using the studio’s money to defy comic book expectations and Hollywood norms. “Todd Phillips is the Joker,” he concluded. It’s yet to be seen how ‘bad’ this film is. One can argue that this is marketing gold on the part of Tim Dillon, but I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
