Apple Leads Q1 Smartphone Sales Globally, Data Reveals

1 Min Read

Apple topped global smartphone sales in Q1, driven by strong iPhone 16e sales in Japan and India. They held 19% of the market, just ahead of Samsung’s 18%, even with weaker sales in the US, Europe, and China. Counterpoint Research noted this, highlighting iPhone growth in emerging markets.

IDC reported a slight 1.5% rise in global smartphone shipments. Apple increased shipments early, possibly to avoid potential tariffs.

Apple’s stock rose 3.5% amid trade tensions. The company also shipped iPhones from India to the US to bypass tariffs. Later, tariffs on Chinese smartphones were paused, boosting tech stocks.

IDC analysts warned that while the tariff pause provides temporary relief, reliance on China’s supply chain remains a concern. They advised US brands to maximize shipments.

Counterpoint forecasts a possible market decline due to tariff uncertainty. Xiaomi, Vivo, and OPPO followed Apple and Samsung in sales rankings.
