In a new compliance document, Apple outlines upcoming changes to comply with the European Union’s Digital Markets Act. These include allowing iPhone users in the EU to uninstall Safari by the end of 2024 and developing a more user-friendly method for transferring data to non-Apple phones by fall 2025.

Apple’s document also details additional user-friendly features that are coming to iOS in the EU. By late 2024 or early 2025, users will have a “browser switching solution” to easily transfer data between different browsers on their devices. Additionally, iPhone users in the EU will be able to choose their preferred default navigation app by March 2025.

The availability of these features beyond the EU remains unclear. While Apple hasn’t confirmed if they’ll be global, their previous compliance measures for the DMA, like allowing alternative app stores and browser engines, are currently limited to the European Union. Apple’s data transfer solution is expected to integrate with existing migration tools offered by other companies.
