While many popular apps from iOS and macOS haven’t made the jump to Apple Vision Pro yet, VLC media player might be an exception. VideoLAN president Jean-Baptiste Kempf suggests a version for VisionOS is in development.

According to 9to5Mac, the app’s developer, VideoLAN, is working on a version for Apple’s Vision Pro. “We even have it running already,” said VideoLAN president Jean-Baptiste Kempf. Despite a working version, VLC’s release for Vision Pro might be delayed. VideoLAN president Jean-Baptiste Kempf acknowledges the small user base, stating, “There isn’t a clear need yet” due to limited Vision Pro adoption.

VLC is gearing up for a massive overhaul with version 4.0, which will involve completely rewriting the app’s core functionalities. For those who don’t know, VLC is a free and versatile media player for many devices (including iPhones, iPads, and Apple TVs). It supports a wide range of video and audio formats, making it a go-to option for playing files that Apple’s QuickTime can’t handle.
