Say it with your chest. ChatGPT’s new feature, “Read Aloud,” allows users to hear responses spoken back in one of five voices, making it convenient for those on the move. This functionality is available on the web and mobile apps for iOS and Android.

Beyond offering five distinct voices using its impressive multilingual capabilities, Read Aloud can speak 37 languages and even intelligently detects the language of the text it reads. Read Aloud will be available for both GPT-4 and GPT-3.5 models and highlights OpenAI’s progress in multimodal capabilities, coming soon after competitor Anthropic introduced similar functionalities.

The exciting new “Read Aloud” feature empowers users to have ChatGPT verbally recite its written responses. Additionally, users can configure the chatbot to consistently deliver verbal responses, eliminating the need to read on-screen.

On mobile apps, a simple tap and hold on the text activates the Read Aloud player, allowing users to play, pause, or rewind the response. The web version offers a similarly smooth experience. A speaker icon located below the text provides the same functionality with a single click
