Today, X unveiled “Articles,” a new feature for creating in-depth content on the platform. Similar to posts on Medium or a WordPress blog, Articles allows Premium+ users and verified organizations to publish long-form content with formatting, images, videos and even links to other X posts. X introduced “Articles” with a post from their official @Write account.
Last year, X (formerly Twitter) increased the character limit for long posts to 25,000 characters for paying users. Some reports, like one from Engadget, suggest the limit for Articles could be even higher, at around 100,000 characters.
In 2022, Twitter (before Elon Musk’s acquisition) launched Notes, a platform for long-form content. However, under Musk’s leadership, projects like Notes, ad-free articles, and the newsletter platform Revenue were all put on ice. Despite this, in July 2023, Musk hinted that the company was still developing a solution for creators to share long-form content incorporating various media formats. With Articles, X is making a play to become a destination for writers, potentially competing with platforms like Medium.
