Three men in India tragically died after their taxi drove off an unfinished bridge, reportedly following directions from Google Maps, according to The Economic Times. The men were traveling at night to a wedding and couldn’t see the bridge’s condition. Locals found the crash scene a day later when they spotted the car beneath the incomplete structure.

A local official confirmed that the car was using Google Maps for navigation at the time. One victim’s family member also blamed the app, saying, “They were following Google Maps and fell from the incomplete bridge. The road should have been blocked, but it wasn’t. The maps shouldn’t have shown the bridge as complete.”

This isn’t the first time Google Maps has been linked to a fatal accident. Last year, a North Carolina man died after the app allegedly directed him to drive across a bridge that had collapsed years earlier. His family later sued Google, claiming the platform had led drivers onto the collapsed road for years.

Non-fatal incidents have also led to lawsuits. In 2010, a California woman sued Google after the app directed her to walk across a busy highway with no sidewalks at night. She trusted the app to guide her safely but was struck by a car.

These incidents often happen at night, making it harder for users to see hazards, leaving them reliant on the app for directions.
