Waze has discontinued Google Assistant integration on iOS, citing unresolved issues that persisted for over a year.
The feature, initially launched in 2020, was plagued by unresponsive microphone functionality, as reported by numerous users on platforms like Reddit. Waze apologized for the ‘prolonged inconvenience’ in an official post.
The company has announced plans to introduce an ‘enhanced voice interaction solution’ as a replacement in the near future.
Additionally, Waze has been testing an AI-powered ‘Conversational Reporting’ feature since October 2024, enabling select users to report incidents via voice commands.
This decision aligns with Google’s recent announcement to transition users from Assistant to Gemini, with plans to phase out Assistant on most mobile devices and app stores later this year.
Android users can still have access to Google Assistant within Waze.
