If you’re thinking of buying a smartphone, now has never been better. In 2024, several phone options are available at different prices, allowing you to get one with the features you need within your budget. This article will explore the top ten phones people have bought the most in the last 12 months.

A recent report by Counterpoint covered the best-selling phones of 2023, and Apple’s iPhones took the first seven spots among the top ten. This is no surprise since Apple always sells over 200 million iPhones yearly. The list mainly includes the iPhone 14 and the 15 series. However, the iPhone 3 also made it into the top 5 since Apple still sells it brand new.

iPhone 14 was the best-selling phone in 2023

According to this list, the best-selling phone was the iPhone 14, which held a market share of 3.9% of all phones and 19% of Apple’s iPhone sales. The iPhone 14 Pro Max followed this with a 2.8% market share. The 14 series was on top mainly because these two models were sold throughout most of 2023 before the iPhone 15 series was announced.

The iPhone 13, the best seller in 2022, came in fourth place with a market share of 2.2%, which is still impressive since the iPhone 13 was released in 2021, almost three years ago. The 15 series managed to catch up and reach the top 7, thanks to massive Q4 (2023) sales after its launch last September. However, the iPhone 15 Plus is not among the top ten.

Samsung Galaxy A14 5G led the pack for Android

On the Android side, the best-selling phones were the Samsung Galaxy A14 5G, A14 4G, and A04e. So, there is no phone from any other Android OEM apart from Samsung, but this comes as no surprise since Samsung is the most popular Android device in Western markets.

Surprisingly, no flagship devices, including the impressive Samsung Galaxy S3 Ultra, made it to this list, signaling that most people would prefer to pay premium prices for Android devices. People buying phones that cost $1,000 are more inclined to buy an iPhone.

Closing thoughts

Ultimately, the iPhone 14’s success resulted from strategic choices, brand loyalty, and market trends. Competition from other brands like Samsung and Xiaomi remains fierce, and the iPhone 15 series will need to offer compelling features to maintain its position. The iPhone continues to cater to a large audience seeking a familiar yet improved experience at a competitive price.
