Apple’s decade-long pursuit of an autonomous electric car codenamed “Project Titan,” has reportedly come to an end. According to Bloomberg, Apple has stopped its “Project Titan” initiative, which aimed to develop an electric car. This news was reportedly announced internally on Tuesday. The company plans to reassign many of the 2,000 employees working on the project to focus on advancements in generative artificial intelligence.

Company officials Jeff Williams (COO) and Kevin Lynch (vice president in charge of the project) informed employees of the decision. While the project is not definitively canceled, it is on hold indefinitely. This comes after years of speculation and development surrounding Apple’s electric car ambitions. The news also includes potential layoffs, though the number of impacted employees remains unknown. The Verge has contacted Apple for comment but has not received a response.

Indeed, more to come on this.
