Amazon is reportedly preparing to launch a new AI model, codenamed Olympus, possibly as early as this week. According to The Information, Olympus focuses on advanced video and image processing, signaling Amazon’s growing efforts to stand out in the competitive AI market.
Olympus is designed to handle images, videos, and text, setting it apart from other AI models. This move could also reduce Amazon’s reliance on Anthropic’s Claude chatbot, which is widely used through Amazon Web Services (AWS). Sources say Olympus excels in video tasks, such as tracking basketball trajectories or diagnosing issues in underwater drilling equipment.
While not as advanced in text generation as OpenAI or Anthropic, Olympus’s strengths in video analysis and potentially lower costs could attract industries like sports analytics and media. It may fill a gap in the market where video-focused AI solutions are limited.
Amazon may announce Olympus this week at the AWS re:Invent conference, which is scheduled for December 2–6 in Las Vegas.
