The Tender Bar (2021)
Starring Ben Affleck and directed by George Clooney, this Amazon original is adapted from the memoir and childhood of Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist J.R. Moehringer. While Affleck received Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award nominations for his performance, “The Tender Bar” received mixed reviews despite its relatable and heartwarming narrative.
It follows the life of JR Maguire, played by Tye Sheridan, with his single mother, Dorothy (Lily Rabe), and his uncle Charlie (Affleck), who becomes a father figure after JR’s abusive, alcoholic father, Johnny (Max Martini), abandons them. As JR grows up, he discovers his talent for writing.
Despite facing many challenges, JR shows remarkable strength and resilience. “The Tender Bar” is a feel-good movie about overcoming heartbreaks and reaching your potential. It features strong performances and is underrated. M.N. Miller from Ready Steady Cut describes it as one of Affleck’s best roles.

Spy Game (2001)
“Spy Game,” starring Robert Redford and Brad Pitt, deserves more recognition than it gets, yet it remains underrated. In this 2001 action thriller, Tom Bishop (Pitt), a CIA asset, is arrested in China just as the U.S. and China are about to finalize an important trade agreement. The U.S. government has 24 hours to rescue him to avoid his execution, but Bishop’s unsanctioned activities could endanger the agreement.
Nathan Muir (Redford), Bishop’s mentor, is just trying to enjoy his last day before retirement. However, he quickly gets drawn into a mission to persuade the U.S. to take action. The plot involves a veteran case officer, a rogue agent, the CIA, the government, the military, and the media, with the stakes continually rising. “Spy Game” is filled with tension; even though it runs for over two hours, it keeps you engaged throughout.

Perfect Addiction (2023)
The film Perfect Addiction follows a young MMA trainer named Sienna (Kiana Madeira). After discovering that her boyfriend Jax (Matthew Noszka), an MMA fighter, has been cheating on her—with her sister, no less—Sienna decides to get even.
Instead of getting angry, Sienna channels her energy into training Jax’s rival, Kayden (Ross Butler from 13 Reasons Why), to beat him in a match. As romantic feelings develop and her ex-boyfriend tries to win her back, Sienna navigates a complicated personal and professional life. While Perfect Addiction is a predictable rom-com, its boxing elements add a unique twist, making it appealing even to those who don’t typically enjoy the genre.
