According to information confirmed by CNBC, TikTok has cut about 60 jobs, becoming the latest tech company downsizing to start the year.
NPR broke the news on Monday of job cuts at ByteDance. The firm explained it was a routine sales and advertising reorganization impacting staff in LA, NYC, Austin, and elsewhere.
Following a downsizing wave in 2023, tech giants like Amazon and Alphabet continued trimming fat in January, with Unity, Discord, and Trend Micro joining the trend.
In 2023, TikTok’s US team had roughly 7,000 employees, while ByteDance, its parent company, boasted a global workforce of over 150,000.
After struggling to compete with giants like Tencent and NetEase, ByteDance scaled back its gaming division, Nuverse, with hundreds of layoffs in November.
Following an internal review, ByteDance announced a difficult decision to restructure its gaming business, aiming to align with long-term strategic goals.
