DoorDash has confirmed its partner partnership with Wing to handle drone deliveries in the US. Wing is an Alphabet-owned company that offers drone delivery services for small packages. After their successful partnership lasting more than one year in Australia, the drone delivery service for food is now expanding to the United States, allowing for much quicker deliveries.

Christiansburg, Virginia, is the first beneficiary of this drone delivery service. In the coming months, other states and cities in the US will gradually join the service. In the early days of this service, only “eligible items” from Wendy’s Foods qualified for drone deliveries. There is no official list of the exact items from Wendy Foods that are eligible for drone deliveries. However, users will see the “deliver by drone” option on the DoorDash checkout page.

Wing promises to deliver packages in as little as 30 minutes and maintain food quality upon arrival. As the program expands in more states, DoorDash will include more restaurants and Wendy’s Foods, which is currently the only drone delivery option. The company already supports over 60 restaurants in Australia, so we should expect McDonald’s, KFC, and Burger King also to get the drone delivery option on DoorDash.

Wing has drastically scaled up its drone delivery services in recent years. It’s already partnering with other big brands, including Walmart and FedEx, to enable faster deliveries of smaller packages. Now that Wing has entered the food delivery industry in the US, we should hope for a major change in how we receive goods and meals in the next couple of months.
