This week, Roku TV users are encountering a mandatory update to the terms of service upon startup. Here’s a breakdown of what you need to be aware of.
Roku recently implemented an update to its Dispute Resolution Terms. When you turn on your Roku device, you’ll see a full-screen notification informing you of this change. You’ll need to agree to the updated terms to continue using your Roku TV and its services.
While you can view the updated terms, there’s no way to bypass agreeing to them, effectively limiting access to the Roku OS. However, some users have reported their TVs still allow switching to HDMI inputs despite the update.
The updated terms offer a limited opt-out option. Within 30 days of being notified (potentially as early as February 20th via email), you can mail a letter to Roku, including your personal details, device information, and (optionally) a purchase receipt. The address is:
Stephen Kay, General Counsel, Roku, Inc.
1701 Junction Court, Suite 100
San Jose, CA 95112
It’s important to note that this is the only method for opting out and requires physical mail.
