Apple is reportedly swinging for a home run with the upcoming iPhone 16 series, including both standard and Pro models, fueled by its new AI platform, Apple Intelligence, and a promising iOS 18. This move follows a report from Taiwanese publication CTEE indicating Apple is increasing chip orders from its long-time partner, TSMC.
Apple anticipates record iPhone 16 sales, targeting 90-100 million units, a significant increase from last year’s projection of 80-90 million iPhone 15 and 15 Pro sales.
While both iPhone 16 and Pro models are rumored to use A18 series chips, reports suggest a staggered upgrade approach. Previously, Apple released Pro iPhones with the latest chip variant (like the A17 Pro in iPhone 15 Pro), while standard models received the prior-generation chip. This pattern may continue with the iPhone 16 series despite the new chip naming scheme.
iPhone 16 and 16 Plus:
These models will likely use an A18 chip based on the A17 Pro design but manufactured with a newer and presumably more efficient process.
iPhone 16 Pro models:
These will get a brand new A18 Pro chip, expected to be 15-20% faster and specifically designed for improved graphics and AI performance.
Apple’s new AI platform, Apple Intelligence, drives its iPhone 16 sales strategy. However, many Apple Intelligence features may only work on iPhone 15 Pro or later models. This could incentivize users who skipped the iPhone 15 Pro to upgrade and experience the full potential of Apple Intelligence. More news on this to come!
