Apple reportedly plans updates to its smartwatch lineup, including the Apple Watch Series 10, Ultra 2, and a redesigned SE with a plastic case for a potentially lower price point. Following the switch to a nylon composite back in 2022, the next Apple Watch SE might see its case constructed from even more affordable materials, potentially plastic.

While the report doesn’t offer specifics, plastic is generally cheaper than aluminum. This could potentially bring the starting price of the Apple Watch SE down from its current $249 by a significant margin.

Launched on September 16th, 2022, the second generation of the Apple Watch SE wasn’t a complete reinvention, but it provided some important advancements over its predecessor. The biggest upgrade was a speed boost thanks to the new S8 SiP chip. This made the watch more responsive for everyday tasks.

Safety was also enhanced with the introduction of Crash Detection, which could automatically call emergency services in the event of a car accident. Finally, the 2nd gen SE offered a wider selection of colors for both the watch case and bands, allowing for more personalization. In short, it maintained the core functionality and budget-friendly nature of the original SE while adding a performance boost, improved safety features, and more style options.
