Tesla has rolled out its next-gen “Actually Smart Summon” feature (ASS) in a software update this week. While CEO Elon Musk originally promised this feature by September 2022, it’s now live two years later in version 2024.27.20.
According to the release notes, “ASS lets your car come to you or drive to a chosen spot, all on its own. It’s like magic but with tech instead of a wand.”
To use the feature, just open the Tesla app and go to the Summon tab. You’ll see two options: “COME TO ME” and “GO TO TARGET.” Press and hold “COME TO ME” to have your Tesla drive to your location, or set a destination with “GO TO TARGET” and send your car there with a simple press.

In addition to Actually Smart Summon, Tesla is introducing a feature called Dumb Summon. With Dumb Summon, you can control your car using simple forward and backward buttons in the Tesla app, similar to a video game controller.
Tesla advises that both ASS and Dumb Summon should only be used in parking lots or driveways. If you try either feature, keep an eye on your car closely and make sure there are no people, bikes, or other vehicles nearby.
