Florida Netflix: Why your bill is going up over 7%

Starting February 15th, Florida Netflix subscribers will see a 7.44% increase in their bills due to the state’s Communications Services Tax (CST). This tax applies to various services, including mobile communications and video streaming. (Source: Pensacola News Journal)

This change comes after Netflix implemented a price increase in October 2023, raising their basic plan from $9.99 to $11.99 and their premium plan from $19.99 to $22.99 per month.

Companies in Florida can pass on a new communications tax (CST) to their customers, and Netflix opted to do so. This adds to existing subscription costs but doesn’t affect their current entry-level ($6.99) and standard ($15.49) plans.

However, The Verge reports Netflix plans to eliminate the cheapest ad-free plan soon, creating a wider gap between their lowest tiers.
