An anonymous Slashdot reader shared this report from CNBC: Threads has now reached nearly 275 million monthly users, according to CEO Mark Zuckerberg. “We’re on track for Threads to become our next major social app,” Zuckerberg stated in a call with analysts, expressing that he is “quite pleased” with the app’s growth. The new figures reflect a 175% increase from last year when Threads hit 100 million users.
Zuckerberg also noted that Threads is currently adding over 1 million new users daily. While X (formerly Twitter) still leads in user numbers, it’s not by much; estimates from market intelligence firm Sensor Tower indicate that X now has around 318 million monthly users—a 24% drop since Elon Musk’s acquisition in October 2022.
The news also caught the attention of Evan Prodromou, co-author of ActivityPub/Activity Streams 2.0, who highlighted that Threads’ 275 million monthly active users mark a significant jump from the 200 million reported just 13 weeks ago in July. He added, “And most of them have access to the Fediverse, with more expected to join soon.”
