A new SellCell survey found that most Apple and Samsung users don’t find AI features on their smartphones very useful. Among 2,000 people surveyed, 73% of Apple users and 87% of Samsung users said AI added little or no value to their experience. Only 11.1% of Apple users and 5.9% of Samsung users said AI was very valuable.
When comparing Apple Intelligence and Galaxy AI, most users didn’t think one was better than the other. About 32% of Apple users and 75.4% of Samsung users said neither stood out. A small percentage of Apple users (15.4%) preferred their AI features, while 7.8% of Samsung users thought Galaxy AI was better.
The survey was done before Apple released key iOS 18.2 features like Visual Intelligence and Genmoji, which could have changed opinions. At the time, Apple users had access to tools like Writing Tools and natural language search in Photos, which saw moderate use. Samsung users reported more use of features like Circle to Search and AI photo editing.
AI isn’t a big factor in buying decisions yet. Only 21.1% of Apple users and 14.9% of Samsung users said it was important when choosing a phone. Even fewer are willing to pay for AI subscriptions — 11.6% of Apple users said yes, compared to just 4% of Samsung users.
Overall, the survey shows that AI features aren’t a priority for most smartphone users, and they haven’t significantly influenced brand loyalty or buying habits.
