Cancel your trip easier! Airbnb is making substantial adjustments to its cancellation policy to better accommodate unexpected circumstances.
In an online press statement, the US-based vacation rental firm revealed the upgrade on Thursday. The Major Disruptive Events Policy, formerly the Extenuating Circumstances Policy, will become effective on June 6.
According to Airbnb’s new policy, customers can cancel their bookings during their vacation if they are affected by one of the specified coverage areas. Guests will not be charged for refunds for nights they did not stay at the property, and hosts can avoid sanctions.
Airbnb rules require hosts to cancel bookings at no extra cost if the property is deemed “uninhabitable.” Furthermore, hosts can cancel bookings without incurring any penalties or facing any repercussions.
According to Juniper Downs, the worldwide Head of Community Policy and Partnerships, “The changes to this policy, including its new name, were made to ensure it’s meeting the diverse needs of our global community and to create clarity for our guests and Hosts.”
Insurance does not cover things like unexpected medical bills or mandatory jury service. Since Airbnb’s cancellation and refund policy doesn’t cover all situations, it recommends visitors enroll in travel insurance.
