About Futurama
Futurama is an adult animated science fiction sitcom created by Matt Groening, the mind behind The Simpsons. It follows Philip J. Fry, a hapless pizza delivery boy who gets accidentally cryogenically frozen on December 31st, 1999, and wakes up 1,000 years later in a futuristic New York City.
There, he joins his distant relative’s (Professor Farnsworth) interplanetary delivery company, Planet Express. Along with a one-eyed mutant named Leela and a kleptomaniac robot named Bender, they embark on wacky adventures across the universe, encountering aliens, robots, and bizarre situations.
The show premiered on Fox in 1999 but was cancelled in 2003 due to low ratings. However, its popularity grew through reruns and DVD releases. Futurama found new life with four direct-to-DVD movies between 2006 and 2008.
Finally, in 2010, Comedy Central revived the series for another season, followed by six more seasons ending in 2013. Most recently, Hulu picked up Futurama for two more seasons with 20 new episodes, the first of which premieres on July 29th, 2024.
