The new Polestar AI phone was announced at an event in Beijing earlier this week. According to the popular EV maker, this device will only be sold exclusively in China, and the starting price is $1,000. There are no precise details on whether it will finally launch internationally.

Packed with high-end features

Polestar went all-in with its first smartphone, giving it the cutting-edge features you would expect from a 2024 flagship phone. This device has the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip available in most high-end 2024 phones, such as the Galaxy S24 and the OnePlus 12 Pro. It has a default configuration of 1TB UFS 4.0 storage and 16GB RAM.

This device also boasts a 6.7-inch OLED display with a dynamic refresh rate of up to 120Hz and 1850nit peak brightness. It is also IP68-rated for water and dust resistance and is only available in the Polestar white color.

The Polestar phone has a three-camera layout, including a 50MP main lens, 13MP ultrawide lens, and 10MP telephoto lens. It also has a punch-hole selfie camera with 32 megapixels. This device will be powered by a 5050mAh battery that supports up to 50W wireless charging and 80W wired charging. Unlike most flagship phones, the Polestar will come with its charger in the box.

The software that will power this device is Polestar Phone OS, which is, of course, based on Android. Polestar’s Phone OS is built with AI at its core, boasting features such as AI image search, text generation, summaries, image generation, AI voice assistant, and more.

Integration with Polestar cars

As you would expect, Polestar designed this device with their cars in mind. First, the phone has a UWB digital car key, allowing users to get into their Polestar seamlessly. Users can also control some aspects of the device from the Polestar car infotainment system using touch or voice input. These features will make the experience of Polestar car owners much more seamless.

Collaboration with Meizu

To create this phone, Polestar’s design team, based in Sweden, collaborated with Meizu, a popular smartphone maker in China. This collaboration made it much easier for Polestar since they didn’t have phone-making experience. Polestar’s venture into the smartphone market comes after smartphone makers like Xiaomi and Huawei ventured into the EV market in the last few months.
