Storing digital passes in Google Wallet is getting better. Google Wallet’s new feature, rolling out now, uses AI to create a digital version of your pass, complete with all the necessary details, making it as easy to use as any other digital pass.
Announced at Google I/O in May, this feature replaces the old ‘Photo’ option in the ‘Add to Wallet’ menu, which only displayed a barcode or QR code. Called ‘Everything Else,’ this new option can save you from hunting through your email for a PDF while in line or navigating your healthcare app for an insurance card. It works for various categories like business cards, IDs, library cards, loyalty cards, passports, and vehicle registrations. For now, it’s only available in the US.
Google has provided instructions for using this feature, which began rolling out earlier this month. When you choose ‘Everything Else,’ the app requests permission to process your sensitive information using Google’s AI.
It organizes the data into categories like private pass, health pass, or driver’s license. You then take a picture of the pass, review the processed details, make any necessary adjustments, and approve the final version.
