If you’ve sent emails to Gmail users and noticed they’ve gone missing, the reason may lie in Gmail’s spam filter. Google recently confirmed that some emails are blocked because they’re flagged as spam. Here’s what’s happening.
Gmail users have reported missing emails for years, especially from “uk.com” domains. Similar issues came up recently in May 2024 on Google’s support forums, with users reporting that emails from “uk.com” domains weren’t reaching Gmail inboxes.
While most Gmail users appreciate a strong spam filter, it’s a tough balancing act. Spam filters aim to keep harmful messages out but sometimes block real emails too. Overall, Gmail’s anti-spam system helps protect users from malware and phishing scams.
Google’s Plan to Keep Gmail Safe
To reduce spam, Google requires high-volume email senders to use strong security measures. In April 2024, Gmail enforced a rule for large senders (over 5,000 emails a day) to use strict email authentication. Google has also used AI to catch more spam and respond faster to phishing attacks, with these AI measures introduced in late 2023 blocking 20% more spam.
Google’s Response to “uk.com” Email Issues
On the “uk.com” domain issue, Google clarified that this isn’t the same as the “co.uk” country domain but rather a separate commercial domain. Google explained, “We have extra protections for domains known for high spam activity.
Many private domains don’t verify their users, which can lead to spam and other risky activity.” Google encourages affected senders to fill out a bulk sender form so their emails can be reviewed and hopefully reach Gmail inboxes.
