John Cena reminiscences about the good ‘ol days and take one last job in the 2023 action comedy film Freelance. The movie stars John Cena, Alison Brie, Juan Pablo Raba, Alice Eve, Marton Csokas, and Christian Slater. Interestingly, the film is directed by Pierre Morel who directed the cult classic Taken, and penned by Jacob Lentz in his feature writing debut.
The trailer opens up with a first-person flashback of a team of operatives boarding a helicopter that unsuspectedly gets shot down. The scene cuts to ex-Special Forces operative Mason Pettis (John Cena) holding a picture of his team seemingly missing his team. Pettis seeming lives an average life–car, kids, wife, and minivan and his face says it all.
“Do you know that feeling when you’re doing exactly what you’ve put on the earth to do?” The one where it’s like everything inside you is moving together in harmony with the universe? Me either. But well, one can hope, right?
Enter Christian Slater’s character who discusses his life as a lawyer and pulls on his desire for an adventure. He convinces Pettis to provide private security for a washed-up female reporter, Claire Wellington (Alison Brie), and offers him $20,000 to take the job. And of course, a military coup breaks out as she interviews the incredibly well-dressed dictator, Juan Venegas played by Juan Pablo Raba. You can’t make this stuff up!
Claire thinks that she has the story of a lifetime and Pettis is now forced to protect them as they find a way to make it out alive in the jungle. Juan is hilarious and embraces this seemingly bumbling yet powerful role.
The trailer is filled with lots of action and explosions, interesting iPhone product placements, witty one-liners, and genuine humor for the audience. The film is set to debut on October 6, 2023. You can’t miss this one! We really like this one and hope it lives up to the excitement.
